Hidden Valley Ski Resort is located in the Cypress Hills Provincial Park near the town of Elkwater, Alberta Canada. Typically open from early December through to the end of March, Hidden Valley Ski Resort offers 9 trails for skiing and snowboarding. Its unique topographical environment provides stunning vistas overlooking the prairies toward Medicine Hat. Hidden Valley Ski Resort is located 20 km southeast of Medicine Hat on Hwy. 1 & 30 km south on Hwy. 41. The nearby Elkwater townsite is home to year-round amenities including a visitor centre, café, hotel and Nordic trails.
Ski Hill Operations
The Ski Hill Operations team at Hidden Valley Ski Resort are integral to winter season operations by making snow at the start of the season then transferring to lift attendants once the facility is open to the public.
Skill Hill Operations Duties
Snowmaking
- Operation of various equipment such as snowmaking machines, snowmobiles, ATVs, high pressure water and air lines.
- Produce quality snow using air, water, and fan equipment.
- Constant relocation of guns and hoses to various areas around the mountain.
- Adjusting, turning or moving snow guns, sometimes by hand, to maintain snowmaking efficiency.
- Document and report mechanical/safety issues, complete maintenance logs, and checklists.
- Perform light maintenance or repairs on equipment.
Lift Operations
- Safely operating chair lift and beginner carpet.
- Safely loading and unloading guests on the chairlift.
- Checking and validating customer lift tickets.
- Providing excellent customer service.
- Help with crowd control on busy days.
- Snow & ice removal and ramp work.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for these roles are:
- Some high school experience; High School Diploma is an asset but not required
These positions are required to work evenings, weekends and holidays throughout the winter.
Ticket and Administration Officer
Ticket and Administration Officers are often the first point of contact for Hidden Valley Ski Resort visitors. Their role is to create a positive experience by providing accurate and up to date information about the facility, rules, regulations and available site amenities and services. The position focuses on front-line customer service, cash handling, facility access/crowd control and administrative duties.
Ticket and Admin Officer Duties
- Provide professional and courteous in-person, telephone, and e-mail information on recreational activities, facilities, ski passes, and trail conditions.
- Sell day tickets, snow school lessons, rental equipment and retail items to the public.
- Schedule and co-ordinate school and group bookings.
- Update trail reports and ensure public are receiving the most recent information.
- Creating and maintaining operational reports.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for these roles are:
- High school diploma. Preference will be given to candidates with related experience in customer service, retail, tourism, and administrative related areas.
These positions are required to work weekends and holidays throughout the winter.
Rental Technician
The role of the Rental Shop Technician is to safely outfit guests with equipment. They provide exceptional customer service to ensure guests have an enjoyable and safe experience at the hill.
Rental Technician Duties
- Provide a high quality experience for the guest by selecting rental equipment that will best fit their needs based on their level of ability.
- Provide guests with the proper product knowledge based on the equipment issued to them.
- Set equipment for the guest based on the guest’s height, weight and ability.
- Inform the guest of how to operate equipment as well as any other resort information the guest may require.
- Ensure proper rental procedures are followed with each guest; waiver is filled out, equipment is all scanned into profile, and DINs are set correctly on skis.
- Maintain the cleanliness (may include tiding, cleaning floors, removing garbage’s from the building) of the shop and proper storage of all equipment.

Snow School Instructor
Ski and Snowboard Instructors spend their days on the slopes teaching the sports to all levels of ability and ages. These patient team members teach everyone from young children to active seniors how to improve their skiing and snowboarding skills. They are also ambassadors on the mountain to ensure guests have a successful and safe day.
Snow School Instructor Duties
- Teach skiing and/or snowboarding to groups and individuals in a safe and fun learning environment through exceptional class management skills and creativity.
- Follow the Responsibility Code and ensure guest safety on varied terrain in winter weather.
- Teach students to load and unload lifts; physically assist guests when required.
- Assisting with snow removal and maintenance.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for these roles are:
- Level 1 CASI or CSIA certificate
- High school diploma

Ski Patrol
The Ski Patroller position is responsible for emergency medical care and rescue services to patrons of Hidden Valley Ski Resort. Ski patrollers also work to promote mountain safety by enforcing area policies, clearing debris from the ski runs, maintaining the resort boundaries, and other specialized techniques.
Ski Patrol Duties
- Administer emergency care/first aid to injured skiers and snowboarders.
- Transport uninjured skiers or snowboarders who are having difficulty or have lost or damaged equipment to base area.
- Assist with educational efforts related to safe skiing/riding practices.
- Patrol assigned areas regularly to ensure safety of the hill, public and staff.
- Ensure all trails are properly marked and maintained.
- Identify injured, lost, out of control and reckless skiers and snowboarders
- Identify existing or potential skiing hazards and remediate.
- Monitor and report on weather/skiing conditions, skiing traffic, etc.
