Alberta Parks provided an opportunity for Albertans to share feedback from August 2 to October 3 2016 on the Porcupine Campground Relocation Proposal (Proposal).
Based on feedback during the consultation process and other considerations, the Proposal is now approved.
The project will include constructing 40 new sites designed as a group campground in the Bow Valley South area of Bow Valley Provincial Park. The group campground design will also include a group cook shelter, picnic tables, washroom, fire circle, garbage and water tanks. The site will be designed to accommodate a maximum of 20 RVs and 20 tents. Construction is proposed this spring and may take 4-6weeks.
Alberta Parks will conduct a minor administrative amendment to the facility zone identified in the Bow Valley Protected Areas Management Plan to include the Porcupine Group Campground as well as some facilities at the adjacent existing Owl and Grouse Group Campgrounds that are not completely captured within the current facility zone. Areas within the current facility zone that have mature or recovering vegetation will be excluded from future footprint expansion. In addition, Alberta Parks will rezone the former Porcupine site from facility zone to natural environment.
