Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation (TPR) has recently expanded Young's Point Provincial Park, near Valleyview, by approximately 130 hectares.
The two parcels of land added to Young's Point Provincial Park were acquired through a land exchange between an adjacent private landowner and Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD). The land was then transferred to TPR in June of 2009 for the purpose of adding it to Young's Point Provincial Park. The added lands contain mature mixedwood boreal forest and wetlands, and will be a valuable addition to the park. These lands were previously surrounded by the park on all but one side, so the addition will consolidate the park's land base and increase its preservation values.
Young's Point Provincial Park is located on the west end of Sturgeon Lake near Valleyview, and offers a wide range of outdoor experiences, including camping, day use, boating, fishing, bird watching, hiking and cross-country skiing.
