Between March 19 and May 17, 2010, Albertans were invited to share their feedback on a draft conceptual plan for an all-season trail system to upgrade and enhance trail opportunities within the West Bragg Creek area.
The plan was prepared through a partnership between the Government of Alberta and the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association, and has received significant input from trail users, conservation groups, and other local stakeholders.
The West Bragg Creek trails are located on public land within Kananaskis Country, and are maintained by Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation with assistance from the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association. Although the trails were originally designed as winter ski trails, they have become popular for all-season use.
The plan is intended to provide direction for the development of sustainable all-season trails while reducing impacts on the Elbow River watershed, area wildlife, and conflicts with other land uses. For more information on this proposal, please see the Frequently Asked Questions.
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the draft concept plan. Valuable input was collected during this public consultation process. All of the information gathered from public feedback has been reviewed. Please take a look at What We Heard.
Based on public feedback, the draft conceptual plan has been updated to reflect public feedback and to clarify the issues. The final plan has been approved by the Government of Alberta and the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association and will implemented as resources become available. Trail development may proceed in a phased manner over several years.
Prior to construction, trail developers will be required to submit a detailed layout and design with appropriate proposed mitigative measures for review and approval by the Government of Alberta.
