What We Heard
- Almost all responses indicated strong support for the proposal.
- The islands contain significant ecological values and adding them to Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park will provide better management and protection of these values.
- People want to continue to be able to access and enjoy the islands.
Resulting Decision
- Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation has added the islands in Lac La Biche to Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park through Order-in-Council. Specifically, this includes the addition of: Currant Island, Birch Island, Red Fox Island, Pelican Island and two un-named islands, as well as the consolidation of High Island and Blackfox Island Natural Areas into Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park.
The islands will be managed consistent with the direction of Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park. Access to the islands will not change, and current uses and activities will continue to be allowed in the islands in designated areas.
