Unplug and unwind

The huts are well equipped with basic amenities, so you just need to bring food, water and bedding. There is no running water or electricity in the huts, but that’s all part of the backcountry experience! A wood stove in each hut will keep you warm throughout the night and firewood is provided.

Be sure to pack your cross country skis or snowshoes as not all of the huts can be accessed by vehicle. There are several trails that allow direct access to the huts, taking you through scenic a mixture of forest and prairie landscapes. If you don’t have your own gear, pick up rental equipment at the Visitor Centre. We also provide pull sleds to help pack in your supplies.

You'll have access to cross country ski trails, snowshoeing trails, ice fishing, and wildlife viewing right at your doorstep. Enjoy some spectacular views of the night sky when you're relaxing after a long day of winter activities. Far away from the reach of the city lights, Cypress Hills is a dark sky preserve – you'll experience stargazing at its best!

Hut-to-Hut Experience – For the True Adventurer

If you love the thought of spending time in the backcountry, but are looking for more of a challenge, why not try a hut-to-hut trip? Spend a night or two in the Tom Trott or Medicine Lodge Hut, then ski or snowshoe across the park along our trail system to the Spruce Coulee hut for a second night. It is exhilarating and challenging and gives you the opportunity to connect with nature - what could be better?
