CLOSURE / WARNING:

The 6 Backcountry Shelters are still closed to the Public due to the COVID-19, including the Park Office. Thank you for the help of not spreading the COVID-19 virus.

TRAIL CLOSURES / WARNINGS / PROCEED WITH CAUTION:

  • The first loop is under water in both directions of the trail (Lost Lake Trail & Neon Trail). BE VERY CAUTIOUS. 
  • Grouse Trail - CLOSED because of flooding water, beaver trenches through the trail and damage to the trail.
  • Caution Section of Don's Way Trail along the 7 foot fence is under water with beaver trench present and a exposed culvert.
  •  Central Alleyway and Winter Junction has a shallow beaver trench and some flooding.
  • You may come across other closures or warnings or caution areas within Cooking Lake/Blackfoot PRA trail system, as information regarding the trail system is not passed on or always posted.

Information:

  • Be prepared for changing weather conditions.
  • Crossing any hazardous area is entirely at your own risk.
  • Be aware of natural hazards such as rocks, downed trees, flooded frozen areas, thin ice and open water may be encountered from flooding. 
  • Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
  • Moderate Fire Hazard.

Horse Trails

Staging Area is Open, Central Alleyway is Open and Pastures are open. No access to pastures where the cattle are grazing (Keep out). Equestrian Trails Are Partially Closed.

TRAIL CLOSURES / WARNINGS / PROCEED WITH CAUTION:

  • Equestrian Trails are Closed
  • Wapiti Trail (north end) - Closed from Blackfoot Trail to Running Dog Junction, dangerous footing for horses, culverts cannot be seen under the flooded water - Trail is washed out in two areas - KEEP OUT.
  • Blackfoot Trail and JJ (coming from Waskehegan staging area) - Beaver trench and flooding across trail directly west of bridge and bridge is washout also.
  • You may come across other closures or warnings or caution areas within Cooking Lake/Blackfoot PRA trail system, as information regarding the trail system is not passed on or always posted.

Information:

  • Crossing any hazardous area is entirely at your own risk.
  • Be aware of natural hazards such as rocks, potholes, downed trees, flooded frozen areas, thin ice and open water may be encountered from flooding. 
  • Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
  • Moderate Fire Hazard.

Information:

  • This sector is CLOSED TO HORSES from Dec 1st to April 1st annually.
  • Be prepared for some flooded areas and down trees on the trails.
  • Be prepared for changing weather conditions.
  • Crossing any hazardous area is entirely at your own risk.
  • Watch for beaver trenches in areas of the trails that have been flooded as a result of beaver activity - dismount
  • Be aware of natural hazards such as rocks, potholes, downed trees, flooded areas and open water may be encountered from flooding. 
  • Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
  • Moderate Fire Hazard.

TRAIL CLOSURES / WARNINGS / PROCEED WITH CAUTION:

  • Wapiti Trail (very north end) - Closed from Blackfoot Trail to Running Dog Intersections has two washouts
  • Rest of the trails access is very restrictive in this sector. You may come across other closures or warnings or caution areas within Cooking Lake/Blackfoot PRA trail system, as information regarding the trail system is not passed on or always posted.

PROCEED WITH CAUTION:

  • East of Wapiti trail & West of Round Up trail near the middle on Central Alleyway. Some beaver activity.
  • Central Alleyway and Winter Junction has a shallow frozen beaver trench.

  • Be prepared for changing weather conditions.
  • Crossing any hazardous area is entirely at your own risk.
  • Watch for beaver trenches in areas of the trails that have been flooded as a result of beaver activity.

  • Wapiti Trail North & South - Closed from Blackfoot Trail to Running Dog Intersections - IMPASSABLE - dangerous footing for horses - culverts cannot be seen under the water - Trail is washed out in two areas and under water in areas of the south - KEEP OUT
  • Access to Round up Trail & Wapiti Trail very restrictive. You may come across other closures or warnings or caution areas within Cooking Lake/Blackfoot PRA trail system, as information regarding the trail system is not passed on or always posted.

PROCEED WITH CAUTION:

  • East of Wapiti trail & West of Round Up trail near the middle on Central Alleyway. Some beaver activity.
  • Central Alleyway and Winter Junction has a shallow beaver trench and some flooding.
  • Round-up trail is wet, muddy and has some water in areas.

  • Be prepared for some flooded areas and down trees on the trails.
  • Be prepared for changing weather conditions.
  • Crossing any hazardous area is entirely at your own risk.
  • Watch for beaver trenches in areas of the trails that have been flooded as a result of beaver activity.
  • Be aware of natural hazards such as rocks, potholes, downed trees, frozen flooded areas and open water may be encountered from flooding. 
  • Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
  • Moderate Fire Hazard.

  • Please be advised that a Cyanobacterial (Blue-Green Algal) Bloom Advisory is issued for Islet Lake. Please see the Alberta Health Services website for the official advisory. Avoid contact, do not swim or wade and do not let your pets swim in the lake
