Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area

Alberta Parks

Ecosystem Connectors

Ecosystems are complex and ever-changing communities made up of living and non-living parts. In this immersive program, students will explore the ecosystems of Miquelon Lake Provincial Park to understand how these systems function and interact. They’ll investigate how natural and human-made changes impact ecosystems, learn how to measure and compare characteristics of nature, and examine the diversity of plants and animals. Students will also explore how we manage natural areas and discover ways to help our local ecosystems thrive.

Students will:

  • Observe and help demonstrate how ecosystems function and respond to change
  • Engage in storytelling and discussions to explore ecosystem interactions
  • Compare biodiversity across different ecosystems in the park
  • Freely explore a natural ecosystem, finding and sharing their discoveries
  • Participate in an “Eco Chat” debate on managing and protecting natural areas
