Officially named Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Grazing, Wildlife and Provincial Recreation Area, this park supports a variety of outdoor recreation activities, as well as grazing and Indigenous and seasonal hunting.

This trail runs along the north shore of Running Dog Lake. The Running Dog Group Use shelter is located on the west shore of the lake at the mid-way point of the trail.
