Please be advised that Cyanobacterial (Blue-Green Algae) has been identified in the water at this location. Additional information can be found online at AHS Health Advisories

Visitors are advised to take the following precautions:

Avoid all contact with cyanobacterial blooms. If contact occurs, wash with tap water as soon as possible.
Do not swim or wade or allow your pets to swim or wade in any areas where cyanobacteria is visible.
Do not feed whole fish or fish trimmings from this lake to your pets.
Consider limiting human consumption of whole fish and fish trimmings from this lake, as it is known that fish may store toxins in their liver. People can safely consume fish fillets from this lake.

As always, visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any recreational body of water at any time. Boiling this water will not remove the toxins produced by cyanobacteria. An alternative source of drinking water should also be provided for pets and livestock while this advisory is active.

Weather and wind conditions can cause algae blooms to move from one location in the lake to another. As such, this advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

Please note: Waters in which the cyanobacterial bloom is NOT visible can still be used for recreational purposes, even while this Health Advisory is in place.

Where: Wabamun Lake Campground , Wabamun Lake Day Use , Wabamun Lake Provincial Park

Details: Water has been turned off for the season at the day use area and the campground except for the water taps at Aspen and Deer Loops for filling jugs. The Shower House and flush toilets are open until October 12. Starting October 12, water will be available only in Aspen Loop at the campground, weather permitting.

Details: Due to low water levels of Wabamun Lake, Alberta Parks is recommending the following:

North boat launch - hand launch small boats such as canoe and kayak
South boat launch - use caution when backing in and pulling out boat trailers

The Wabamun Lake Day Use Area is a popular destination for summer recreation, located in Half-Moon Bay where the waters are calmer than on the main lake. Visitors will find two boat launches, a scenic boardwalk, and a big sandy beach with a designated swimming area. There is plenty of space for picnics and games on the grassy areas, along with a baseball diamond and a sand volleyball court. Amenities include a foot wash off shower, outhouses, and flush toilets. Picnic shelters are available to rent and can be booked by calling the store. Kayak and canoe rentals are available at the park store, near the park entrance. During busy periods, a hot concession operates to serve snacks and refreshments. A large parking lot accommodates cars and boat/RV trailers, but on hot days vehicles may be turned away due to capacity. This vibrant area is the perfect spot to enjoy a warm summer day.
