Foothills Wanderers Orienteering Club: CNC Ski-Orienteering (Forest Event)

Date: Sunday February 8th
Time: 10:00AM-2:00PM
Staging area: Cross-Country Stadium 

For this ski-orienteering event, participants will be mostly navigating along groomed ski trails and the controls are all located next to groomed trails. The CNC has a very dense network of ski trails, and the navigation challenge is to decide which trails to take and to make quick route decisions as you ski past many trail junctions. There are three courses being offered:

  1. Novice Course: 2.7 km, 9 controls with 40m of climb on undulating wide ski trails.
  2. Intermediate Course: 5.6 km, 12 controls with180m of climb. A longer course with more climb and some steeper ski trails.
  3. Advanced Course: 8.4 km, 15 controls, 290m of climb. A long course with quite a bit of climb and descent on steeper trails. More controls located in areas of dense trail complexity to make navigation challenging.

Controls will be located within ski accessible locations only. No exclusive use of trail system for event participants. Sharing with other users.
