Where: Baldy Pass Trail , Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park , Lusk Pass Trail , Mount Baldy scramble routes (including North, South and West ascent/descent trails), Mount Baldy climbing crag.

Details: Due to a close encounter with a cougar.

Although an advisory is in place for this area, cougars can be encountered at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a cougar:

  • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for cougars and their signs.
  • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible and know how to use it
  • Keep children close.
  • Keep your pet on a leash at all times.
  • Learn more about cougar safety.

Tombstone Backcountry Campground is found in Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park. The campground is 7.3 km from the trailhead at Elbow Pass Day Use Area in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park via Elbow Lake Trail/Big Elbow Trail. This backcountry campground has tent sites, firepits (firewood provided), hitching rails, pit/vault toilets and secure food storage lockers. 

Primary Access: This trail is 7.3 km one way with 125 meters of elevation gain and is rated moderate via Elbow Lake Trail/Big Elbow Trail.
