Construction Advisory - Phase 1 Central Corridor Pathway

    Effective Date: August 1, 2024 - Until Further Notice

    Where: Bankside Day Use , Burnsmead Day Use , Fish Creek PP , Mallard Point Day Use , Mallard Point Day Use Area up to and including, the Bow Bottom Trail SE pedestrian crossing

    Details: A Trails Master Plan for Fish Creek Provincial Park was completed in 2022 and proposes a multi-use trail network accommodating a wide variety of users. The key objective is to expand on existing opportunities in the park in a manner that is safe, enjoyable, sustainable, and environmentally conscious. The highest priority is the Central Corridor Pathway – a 19 km pathway artery, running through the heart of the park and connecting day use areas to key points of interest. Portions of the Central Corridor Pathway are also segments of the Rotary-Mattamy Greenway and the Trans Canada Trail. The Government of Alberta is proceeding with Phase 1 construction of the Central Corridor Pathway in August 2024. This includes the eastern segment of the pathway, between the Mallard Point Day Use Area up to and including, the Bow Bottom Trail SE pedestrian crossing. To improve public safety, Phase 1 will also include the following special projects:
    • Special Project 1 – Realignment of a small pathway segment away from the eroding shoreline of Fish Creek
    • Special Project 2 – Removal of a staircase and a new trail alignment near the community of Evergreen Estates
    • Special Project 3 – Mitigation to a small pathway segment in Marshall Springs to address drainage challenges
    To support construction activities, short term delays are expected along the eastern segment of the Central Corridor Pathway from August 2024 through late fall, with minor works in 2025. We recognize delays are inconvenient, however, they are necessary to ensure public safety and to support construction efficiency. Please follow all signage and do not cross construction barriers. Temporary intermittent pathway closures may impact the following trails: The overall Central Corridor Pathway project will occur in three phases of construction, with anticipated completion in 2028. Facilities and services in Fish Creek Provincial Park will not be impacted. Construction Advisory - Sikome Aquatic Facility

    Effective Date: December 8, 2025 - Until Further Notice

    Where: Fish Creek PP , Sikome Aquatic Facility

    Details: Located within Fish Creek Provincial Park, Sikome Aquatic Facility (Sikome) is an artificial waterbody that welcomes approximately 100,00 visitors annually. Operated seasonally for the summer months, Sikome serves as a public swimming and recreational area. Although Sikome opened to visitors in the late 1970s, it has not undergone major renovations since its initial construction. Parks Division acknowledges the importance of supporting Albertans’ ability to access parks and opens spaces for health and well-being. Parks Division plans to update Sikome Aquatic Facility to provide a modern ‘urban’ provincial park visitor experience. Construction in support of building refurbishment at Sikome Aquatic Facility will include replacement of two existing admissions booths as well as renovation of five existing buildings:
    • Concession & Beach Shop with the addition of two universal washrooms rooms;
    • Staff Services Building;
    • North Change House with the addition of a designated Water Safety Centre;
    • South Change House with the addition of two universal washrooms rooms; and
    • Conversion of the South Administration Building to a modest Beach House open for public reservations.
    Please the reference the Frequently Asked Questions for more information regarding plans for building modernization. It is anticipated that construction for building modernization will occur December 2025 to Summer 2026 (subject to change). To avoid impacts to visitors, major construction activities will be scheduled while Sikome is closed to visitors (outside of the typical operating season of late June – early September annually). However, select areas may be closed to visitors during the 2026 operating season on an as-needed basis to support minor construction activities. We recognize construction is inconvenient. However, it necessary to ensure visitor safety and support construction efficiency. Please follow all signage and do not cross construction barriers. Other facilities and services in Fish Creek Provincial Park will not be impacted. Partial Closure - Bebo Grove Washrooms

    Details: Due to operational needs, Bebo Grove Washroom Facility will be closed daily between 5:30-6:00pm (rather than 8:00am-8:00pm as stated on our website), until further notice.
