Details:The following backcountry campgrounds reopened on July 14 after being closed due to flooding:
Visitors to the area may notice flooding impacts and trail erosion. Some areas were minimally affected, while other areas experienced more impact. Be sure to plan ahead, and be prepared for wet and muddy conditions on trails.
Visitors are reminded use extreme caution around waterways, obey all posted signs, barricades, and closures. Please stay off closed trails and out of restricted areas to protect your safety, allow crews to complete their work, and help prevent further damage to already vulnerable landscapes and infrastructure.

Where: Bragg Creek Provincial Park , Cat Creek Provincial Recreation Area , Fitzsimmons Creek Provincial Recreation Area , Sheep River Provincial Park
Details:Alberta Parks will be conducting vault toilet replacement at six (6) locations in Kananaskis Region. Work will occur at the following locations from July 07 to August 31, 2026 (subject to change and weather dependent):
To facilitate construction activities, heavy equipment will be working on site and some areas of parking will be temporarily closed to accommodate staging. Temporary barricades and signage will be present to delineate work areas.
We recognize construction is inconvenient, however it is necessary to uphold public safety and to support construction efficiency.
Follow the direction of all signage and personnel in the area and stay out of active construction zones.

Details:The State of Local Emergency for Kananaskis has ended.
Crews are conducting detailed assessments of trails, campgrounds, day-use areas, roads and other infrastructure impacted by flooding and high water. While access has been restored to many areas, numerous backcountry campgrounds, trails and day use areas remain closed while damage is assessed, and repairs are planned.
Visitors are reminded use extreme caution around waterways, obey all posted signs, barricades and closures. Please stay off closed trails and out of restricted areas to protect your safety, allow crews to complete their work, and help prevent further damage to already vulnerable landscapes and infrastructure.
If you encounter hazards or damage after an area has reopened, only proceed with your recreation if safe to do so. Any hazards or damage discovered can be reported via email at AlbertaParks.ca/ContactUs. Include location details and photos if possible.

Highway 40: Road access has been reestablished for visitors travelling HWY 742 up to the rockslide closure and both directions along HWY 40, including HWY 40 South. Access across the Evan Thomas Bridge is open with work from highway crews continuing onsite. Travellers are encouraged to check 511 Alberta for the most up to date information.

Details:Due to significant precipitation, trails across the region are extremely wet, with standing water, erosion, and flood damage. The following trails within Kananaskis Country are closed until further notice:
Additionally, any trails accessed through a closed trailhead should be assumed to be closed.
Crews are actively investigating damage and undertaking repairs where necessary. As conditions allow, trails will be re-opened and this advisory will be updated.

Details:Due to significant precipitation and high stream flows, the following backcountry campgrounds within Kananaskis Country are closed until further notice:
Visitors to the Aster area must be aware completing the Northover Route as a circuit is not possible. The Northover Route is only accessible as an out and back via the Aster Basin, or for those carrying on through British Columbia.
Crews are actively investigating damage and undertaking repairs where necessary. As conditions allow, backcountry campgrounds will be reopened and this advisory will be updated.
Visitors must obey all signage, and watch for equipment.

Details:Sections of Kananaskis Country received in excess of 170mm of rain over a 24-hour period from June 28 into June 29. As a result, trail conditions throughout the region are wet with standing water and possible flood damage. Users should tread cautiously, and be prepared for variable conditions.
Any trails accessed through a closed trailhead should be assumed to be closed.
Equestrian and bicycle users are encouraged to stay off of soft trails in order to prevent damage and trail threading.
Please obey all signage and watch for equipment.

Where: Kananaskis Country , Kananaskis Public Land Use Zone, Lusk Pass Parking Area, Jumpingpound Summit Parking Area, Prairie Creek Parking Area, Powderface Ridge North Parking Area, Powderface Ridge South Parking Area
Details:Parking areas along Powderface Road will be temporarily closed for construction.
All trails outside the closure areas will remain open.
The following designated trails will remain accessible by travelling around the fenced closure areas: Lusk Pass, Jumpingpound Ridge – Lusk Climb, Jumpingpound Summit, Prairie Creek, Powderface Creek, and Powderface Ridge.
Expect increased industrial traffic on Powderface Road, and please obey all posted signage.
Follow the direction of all signage and personnel in the area and stay out of active construction zones.
