Flood recovery is ongoing in Kananaskis. Some trails, day use areas and backcountry campgrounds are impacted. Check Advisories before you travel.
Visitor access has been restored to many areas across Kananaskis following heavy rainfall. Those visiting Kananaskis are reminded to use extreme caution around waterways, obey all posted signs, barricades and closures. Please stay off closed trails and out of restricted areas to protect your safety, allow crews to complete their work, and help prevent further damage to already vulnerable landscapes and infrastructure.
Due to significant precipitation and high stream flows, some backcountry campgrounds, trails, and day use areas within Kananaskis Country will remain closed until further notice. Check the Advisories for a full list of closures. Crews are actively investigating damage and undertaking repairs where necessary and these areas will be reopened as conditions allow.

Road access has been reestablished for visitors travelling HWY 742 up to the rockslide closure and both directions along HWY 40, including HWY 40 South. Access across the Evan Thomas Bridge is open with work from highway crews continuing onsite. Travellers are encouraged to check 511 Alberta for the most up-to-date information.

Front country camping access resumed normal operations on July 2.
If your camping reservation was impacted, you will have been contacted via email about your reservation. Refunds, including any transaction or penalty fees paid will be processed automatically. All refunds will be processed to your original payment method in 5-7 business days.
If you were not contacted about a reservation cancellation, please proceed with your camping trip as originally booked.
Please note that some backcountry campgrounds are closed until further notice, and further cancellations may be sent to reservation holders once trails have been fully assessed.

We will not be providing status updates for undesignated trails. Please note that undesignated trails are unmaintained, and visitors should use their own best judgment to determine whether it is safe to proceed.
