Camping

Kananaskis Country has two broad types of camping - "vehicle-access" and "backcountry."
Vehicle-access camping is either individual campsites or group camping areas.
On these pages, campgrounds are grouped by "area" in Kananaskis Country. Check the Kananaskis Interactive Map for an overview of these areas.
Camping in vehicle-access campgrounds ranges from all hook-ups (power, water and sewer) to basic with no services.

Vehicle-Access Camping
Regular Camping	Individual campsites
Walk-in Tenting	Walk-in tenting campsites are accessed by walking a short distance from the nearest parking area. These sites are noted in the details for each campground. Examples Gooseberry Campground Mount Sarrail Walk-in Tenting Campground
Equestrian Camping	Equestrian campgrounds have facilities which may include hitching rails, horse corrals and loading ramps. Most equestrian campgrounds are accessed by vehicle. Some are backcountry.
Winter Camping	Some campgrounds stay open year-round and offer winter camping.
Comfort Camping	Comfort camping is an easy, convenient alternative to traditional camping. Sundance Lodges is a privately run, commercial facility offering accommodation in trapper's tents and teepees.

Backcountry Camping
Designated Backcountry campsites	Are accessed by hiking, cycling or riding horseback for more than one kilometre from the nearest parking area.
Random Backcountry camping	Involves hiking, biking, paddling or horseback riding to a camping destination that does not have established facilities.
