Backcountry permits can be purchased (within a 90 day booking window) on reserve.albertaparks.ca.
Four permits can be reserved per transaction. There is no limit to the number of transactions.
When you arrive at the campground tent pads are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fees
Campers aged 15 and under camp for free, but still require a permit.
Permits for campers aged 16 and older are $12 per person, per night.
There is a non-refundable reservation fee of $12 per booking transaction. There is a non-refundable change fee for permit changes.
For a refund of backcountry camping permit fees, a cancellation or change must be made more than 72 hours before 2:00 p.m. of the scheduled arrival date. For example:
If a Backcountry Reservation is booked for Friday and Saturday nights and the cancellation request is received by 1:59 pm on Tuesday, the camping permits will be refunded.
If a Backcountry Reservation is booked for Friday and Saturday nights and the cancellation request is received by 1:59 pm on Wednesday, only the permit for Saturday will be refunded.
If a Backcountry Reservation is booked for Friday and Saturday nights and the cancellation request is received by 1:59 pm on Thursday, no refund will be provided.
Rules
Each camper must have a camping permit.
A maximum of 6 people and one tent is permitted on each site. Exceptions:
2 tents are permitted per site at Big Elbow and Tombstone Backcountry Campgrounds.
At Mount Romulus two tents are permitted in the equestrian campground sites and on sites 9 and 10 in the regular campground; sites 1-8 do not permit two tents per site.
Two hammock-style tents or two bivouac bags are considered equivalent to one tent in all Kananaskis Country Backcountry Campgrounds.
Groups are not permitted to book more than 67% of the total sites in any backcountry campground and if the following groups size limits are to be exceeded, prior approval is required from the Regional Permit Coordinator
Group size limit - 35: Point, Forks, Quaite Valley, Tombstone, Mount Romulus and Big Elbow
Groups size limit - 15: Aster Lake, Three Isle Lake, Turbine Canyon, Elbow Lake, Jewell Bay, Lillian Lake, Ribbon Falls, Ribbon Lake
