A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • Closure - Blackshale Suspension Bridge

    Effective:  December 22, 2023   Updated:  April 17, 2024

      • Effective Date: December 22, 2023 until further notice.
      • Where: The High Rockies Trail suspension bridge over Blackshale Creek.
      • Why: Due to the depth of snow, which affects the handrail height, along with the weight of the snow. Closure is a design requirement.

  • Bear Closure - Area Surrounding Rawson Lake, Sarrail Ridge Trails

    Effective:  December 8, 2023   Updated:  April 17, 2024

      • Effective Date: December 8, 2023, until further notice
      • Where: Area Surrounding Rawson Lake, Sarrail Ridge Trails.
      • Why: Grizzly bear denning in the area.

      Note: Rawson Lake trail and Upper Kananaskis Lake trail remain open. Public must stay on designated trail.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

  • Closure - Elpoca Day Use Area and Valleyview Road

    Effective:  May 31, 2020   Updated:  April 17, 2024

      • Effective Date: Seasonal closure until further notice
      • Where: Valleyview Road from Elpoca Day Use Area to HWY 40 (South) near Little Highwood Day Use Area, including Valleyview Day Use Areas.
      • Why: Frequent bear activity in this area
