Advisories

A controlled access zone will be in place in Kananaskis from June 10–18 for the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit.
Travel and recreation may also be affected before and after. Check for closures before you go. More info: https://rcmp.ca/en/g7

A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • William Watson Lodge G7 Closure

    Effective:  June 1, 2025

  • Construction Advisory - Peter Lougheed PP & Evan Thomas PRA

    Effective:  May 28, 2025

      • Effective Date: May 28 through Late August 2025, or until further notice.
      • Where: Construction services for asphalt pavement refurbishment will occur at the following locations throughout Kananaskis Country:
        • William Watson Lodge
        • Elkwood Amphitheatre Parking Area
        • Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre
        • Kananaskis Country Golf Course and Residence Roads
        • Mt. Kidd RV Park
        • Peter Lougheed Provincial Park Maintenance Area
      • Why: Paving Refurbishment.

      Please refer to the attached maps for more information on impacted areas. To facilitate construction activities, heavy equipment and hauling trucks will be working in the area. Temporary single lane traffic will also be in effect to accommodate work.

      We recognize this is inconvenient, however it is necessary to ensure public safety and to support construction efficiency. Please follow all signage and do not cross construction barriers. Updates will be posted on this advisory as the project progresses. 

  • Closure - Blackshale Suspension Bridge

    Effective:  November 22, 2024   Updated:  February 11, 2025

      • Effective Date: November 22, 2024, until further notice.
      • Where: The High Rockies Trail suspension bridge over Blackshale Creek.
      • Why: The bridge is unsafe for public use in winter because snow depth affects handrail height, and the bridge’s design does not account for the additional weight of snow.

  • Closure - Elpoca Day Use Area and Valleyview Road

    Effective:  May 31, 2020   Updated:  February 11, 2025

      • Effective Date: Seasonal closure until further notice
      • Where: Valleyview Road from Elpoca Day Use Area to HWY 40 (South) near Little Highwood Day Use Area, including Valleyview Day Use Areas.
      • Why: Frequent bear activity in this area
