Details:Work will take place from approximately April 20 to June 6, 2026.
To facilitate construction activities, the section of Wheeler Trail between the Elkwood Amphitheatre and Elkwood Parking Lot will be intermittently closed to all visitors during active work periods. Heavy equipment will be operating on site.
We recognize that construction may cause inconvenience; however, this work is necessary to maintain public safety and ensure efficient project completion. Visitors are asked to follow all posted signage, respect construction barriers, and maintain a safe distance from active work zones.
Follow the direction of all signage and personnel in the area and stay out of active construction zones.

Details:Please be aware that paving refurbishment is scheduled to occur at various locations throughout Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. The areas listed below will be affected, with an overall construction duration anticipated from early June to late July 2026 or until further notice. Please note that dates below are approximate (subject to change):
Floating Work (gravel tie-ins, line painting and signage installation): all areas, completed as crews are available from June 8-July 8, 2026.
Refer to the Advisory Maps enclosed for construction limits. To facilitate construction activities, heavy equipment will be working on site and single lane traffic will be in temporary effect.
Follow the direction of all signage and personnel in the area and stay out of active construction zones.

Details:A Bear Warning has been placed on the Bill Benson trail and the Lower Lake trail between William Watson Lodge and Canyon day use because of multiple bears in the area.
Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

Details:The section of Highway 40 from Kananaskis Lakes Trail to Highwood Junction is currently under a Bear Warning.
Grizzly bears, and other wildlife, are currently utilizing the highway as a travel corridor to avoid the snow pack at higher elevations. Hikers and cyclists should plan their route accordingly and remember to give wildlife space during this critical feeding time.
Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

Where: Peter Lougheed Provincial Park , Spray Lakes West Campground , Spray Valley Provincial Park
Details:Spray Lakes West Campground is open, however it is only accessible via Hwy 40 South and the unpaved portion of Hwy 742 N via Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.

Details:The Boulton Creek Campground dump station is now open as a dry dump only (no water). Potable water is still available at Canyon Dump Station.
Grizzly Creek Day Use Area is surrounded by high mountain ranges and offers an incredible view of the Kananaskis Valley along Highway 40.
