  • Bear Warning - High Rockies Trail from Driftwood to Buller Creek

      August 29, 2020

      • Effective Date: August 29, 2020 until further notice
      • Where: High Rockies Trail from Driftwood Day Use to Buller Creek Day Use
      • Why: A grizzly bear bluff charge occurred on this trail section

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

      • Where: Galatea Creek Trail, Lillian Lake Backcountry Campground, Galatea Lakes, and Guinn's Pass
      • Why: Multiple bears in the area

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

      • Why: Black bear feeding on berries and investigating attractants 

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.
