Details:The section of Highway 40 from Kananaskis Lakes Trail to Highwood Junction is currently under a Bear Warning.
Grizzly bears, and other wildlife, are currently utilizing the highway as a travel corridor to avoid the snow pack at higher elevations. Hikers and cyclists should plan their route accordingly and remember to give wildlife space during this critical feeding time.
Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

Trout Pond Day Use Area is a small park and day use area surrounded by rolling tree covered hills. Enjoy access to short, easy trails to a beautiful pond with views of Mist Mountain to the north. Generously spaced-out picnic tables in the trees provide privacy and shade, an excellent spot to have lunch on a hot summer day.
Hwy. 40 west Peter Lougheed Provincial Park to Highwood House Junction closed annually from Dec. 1 - June 14.
