Where: Moonshine Lake Provincial Park

Details: Please be advised that some walking trails at Moonshine Lake Provincial Park are closed until further notice due to damage from the wildfire. 

• Lakeview Loop trail is open.
• Moose Meadows trail is open
• Pioneer Path trail is closed.
• Loggers Lane trail is closed.

Please be advised that Cyanobacterial (Blue-Green Algae) has been identified in the water at this location. Additional information can be found online at AHS Health Advisories

Visitors are advised to take the following precautions:

• Avoid all contact with cyanobacterial blooms. If contact occurs, wash with tap water as soon as possible.
• Do not swim or wade or allow your pets to swim or wade in any areas where cyanobacteria is visible.
• Do not feed whole fish or fish trimmings from this lake to your pets.
• Consider limiting human consumption of whole fish and fish trimmings from this lake, as it is known that fish may store toxins in their liver. People can safely consume fish fillets from this lake.

As always, visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any recreational body of water at any time. Boiling this water will not remove the toxins produced by cyanobacteria. An alternative source of drinking water should also be provided for pets and livestock while this advisory is active.

Weather and wind conditions can cause algae blooms to move from one location in the lake to another. As such, this advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

Please note: Waters in which the cyanobacterial bloom is NOT visible can still be used for recreational purposes, even while this Health Advisory is in place.

Where: Moonshine Lake Group Use , Moonshine Lake Provincial Park

Details: Please be advised that there have been multiple sightings of cougars throughout Moonshine Lake Provincial Park.

Although an advisory is in place for this area, cougars can be encountered at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a cougar:

• Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
• Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for cougars and their signs.
• Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible and know how to use it
• Keep children close.
• Keep your pet on a leash at all times.
• Learn more about cougar safety.

Report sightings and incidents to 310-LAND (5263).

Effective Date: September 7, 2026

Where: Moonshine Lake Campground , Moonshine Lake Group Use

Details: Moonshine Lake Group Use and Loops B & C will close for the season on September 7.  Loop A will remain open for reservation-only camping until October 13, with the last night of camping being October 12.  The Park Office is closed for the season on September 7. Firewood will not be available after September 6 and campers will need to bring their own firewood.  Water is tentatively scheduled to be turned off for the season on September 21. Please note that this date is subject to change should cold weather be forecasted. Campers will need to supply their own water following the park's water being turned off.
