  • Elkwater Lake Marina - UPDATE

    Effective:  March 24, 2023   Updated:  June 1, 2023

Forestry, Parks and Tourism planned to replace the Elkwater Lake Marina in Cypress Hills Provincial Park. Current users of the marina have been critical of government’s plan, as the repairs and upgrades do not include seasonal boat stall rentals.

During public meetings on April 5 and 6, members of the boating community expressed frustration that they were not consulted on changes to the marina’s design and are requesting the ministry explore options to include overnight moorage on Elkwater Lake as part of the final marina design.

After engaging in discussions with community members, the planned marina refurbishment construction has been delayed until 2024.

  • Construction Closure - Reesor Lake Day Use

    Effective:  March 5, 2023   Updated:  June 1, 2023

Cypress Hills Inter-Provincial Park (Alberta) will have a closure of the Reesor Lake Day Use area for refurbishment of the Parking Lot, Boardwalk, Vault Toilet and day use area.

Time Frame: Closure for construction from September 12th 2022 to date TBD 2023.

Reason: The current parking lot and boardwalk have had considerable heaving issues over the past 10 years. Portions of the boardwalk have been shut down due to the condition.

Location: The day use area is a popular fishing location that is located on the North side of Reesor lake. Please park on the road edge of the parking lot and respect area constuction zones.

      Upgrades:

      1. The parking lot will receive a new thicker base layer of gravel and better compaction.
      2. The existing boardwalk will be removed and replaced with a accessible wider land based wood system.
      3. Rip Rap (Rock Armour) will be placed on the shore line to better protect the area from erosion and supply areas for small fish.
      4. A new accessible concrete vault toilet will replace the current wood non-accessible vault toilet in the same location.
      5. Landscaping will be completed along with benches and picnic tables.
      6. Accessible paths will be made to connect the boardwalk, parking area and vault toilet
