  • Construction Advisory - Elkwater Lake Marina - Refurbishment

    Effective:  March 24, 2023

Please be advised that Alberta Forestry, Parks and Tourism is closing the area encompassing the Elkwater Lake marina to support construction activities.

      The area is closed:

      • To reduce danger to the general public as contractors work in the area moving heavy equipment and materials on land and in water.
      • Construction efficiency
        • It is more time and cost effective to complete this project during optimal weather conditions.
        • The contractor needs to be able to work without keeping track of the public in the area.
        • Forestry, Parks and Tourism wants to complete the project as efficiently as possible.

Conservation officers will enforce the area closure under the Provincial Parks Act. Do not cross construction barriers and follow all signage.

    Effective:  March 20, 2023

  • Construction Closure - Reesor Lake Day Use

    Effective:  March 5, 2023

Cypress Hills Inter-Provincial Park (Alberta) will have a closure of the Reesor Lake Day Use area for refurbishment of the Parking Lot, Boardwalk, Vault Toilet and day use area.

Time Frame: Closure for construction from September 12th 2022 to May 19th 2023.

Reason: The current parking lot and boardwalk have had considerable heaving issues over the past 10 years. Portions of the boardwalk have been shut down due to the condition.

Location: The day use area is a popular fishing location that is located on the North side of Reesor lake. Please park on the road edge of the parking lot and respect area constuction zones.

      Upgrades:

      1. The parking lot will receive a new thicker base layer of gravel and better compaction.
      2. The existing boardwalk will be removed and replaced with a accessible wider land based wood system.
      3. Rip Rap (Rock Armour) will be placed on the shore line to better protect the area from erosion and supply areas for small fish.
      4. A new accessible concrete vault toilet will replace the current wood non-accessible vault toilet in the same location.
      5. Landscaping will be completed along with benches and picnic tables.
      6. Accessible paths will be made to connect the boardwalk, parking area and vault toilet

    Affected Areas
  • Construction Closure - Low Level Crossing

    Effective:  March 5, 2023

Time Frame: Closure from September 12, 2022 to December 16, 2022  Note: these roads currently close for the winter on normal years and will be closed during and after construction this season until the spring season.

Reason: The two roads currently have Low Level Crossings where visitors and staff drive through the creeks on Ford crossings (these Ford crossings are concrete slabs laid into the stream bed to allow vehicles to cross into a campground and other areas of the Park) Due to environment concerns these crossings will be converted to bridges.

Construction dates: The bridge contract is out for tender and the expected start date is between September 12th and middle of October. The September 12th date was chosen due to seasonal shut down of camping within the campground, Reesor Lake Campground requires the crossing for access during camping season. (Reserve Alberta Parks and Parks Operations have been notified already)

      Locations:

      1. Battle Creek. This crossing is the entrance to Reesor Lake Campground and is the only way in and out of the site, it is located near the South East corner of Reesor Lake within Cypress Hills Provincial Park
      2. Graburn Creek. This crossing is located on the South end of Graburn Road which is located in Cypress Hills Provincial Park. Alternate routes are Fox Road and Bull Trail

See attached Road Closure Map for crossing locations and locations for the road to be closed.

Special Notes: Graburn Road is not a heavily travelled road in the fall within the Park and has alternate roads heading West by using Fox Road and North using Bull Trail. The Reesor Lake entrance is seasonally closed this section will not affect fall traffic.
