Kootenay Plains Provincial Recreation Area offers a unique camping experience with stunning panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains, abundant hiking trails and a variety of camping options to suit your needs. Choose from individual campsites in the open grasslands at Two O’Clock Creek campground, or designated Group Camping Areas at Cavalcade that offer ample space for a memorable gathering under the stars.
There is a climbing wall featuring belay boxes located behind group sites 4 and 5 that is open to the public. Please respect the camping groups in place and walk around the perimeter of their group site on the designated trails.
Keep in mind that there is no potable drinking water, so please plan accordingly. There is no cellphone reception in this area, so it is best to be prepared to be “off grid”.
Embark on an adventure on one of the many hiking trails in the area such as: Siffleur Falls, Two O'Clock Creek Ridge, Thompson Creek Falls, and many others. This area is close to the well-known Abraham Lake, a man-made reservoir housing the Bighorn Dam.
The Kootenay Plains are significant for local Indigenous communities because of the grave sites located on the plains. The nearby ecological reserve protects the area's unique grassland vegetation. Use of motorized vehicles in the ecological reserve is strictly prohibited. There is a 5-km trail from the day use parking area to Siffleur Falls.
