  • Construction Advisory - Lakeland PP Trail Refurbishment Project

    Effective:  October 3, 2024   Updated:  May 8, 2024

The Mile 12 Trail & Jackson Lake Staging Area (Canoe Circuit Portage) is OPEN for the 2025 camping season. There are rolling closures and work still occurring through the park, please obey any closure/construction signage that may be on site.

        • The portage between Kinnaird Lake and Blackett Lake, and the portage between Blackett Lake and McGuffin Lake are closed, and will likely remain closed through the duration of the 2025 canoe season in order to remove existing boardwalks and reconstruct areas of the trails . Access between Blackett Lake and Kinnaird Lake may be possible through the shallow channel connecting the lakes. Motor boats should be aware that weeds in this area can interfere with a propellor and can make for slow travel through this channel and varying water levels may make this passage difficult.
        • The Isthmus Bridge is closed, but boaters will be able to portage over the isthmus between Jackson Lake and Kinnaird Lake.
        • The northern leg of Mosquito Lake Trail from Jackson Lake Dock junction to Jackson Lake East Campsite is closed as the Amisk Bridge is out.
        • The southern leg of Mosquito Lake Trail at McGuffin Outflow into Jackson Lake is closed as the outflow bridge is out.
        • The Isthmus Campground (Jackson Lake South / Kinnaird Lake North) is open, however there will be additional  construction on site and there will be short closures during the work through summer 2025.
        • There will be rolling closures throughout the summer 2025 construction season as work continues to refurbish trails, campsites, docks, and bridges in the park.

Please be advised that construction activities will be occurring throughout Lakeland Provincial Park between October 2024 and May 2026. To accommodate construction there will be isolated closures during this scheduled period. We recognize the closures are inconvenient; however, they are necessary to ensure public safety and support construction efficiency.

The Government of Alberta is committed to improving high-traffic recreational areas across the province. The project will ensure infrastructure meets current standards, improves public safety, and supports positive visitor experiences. To support construction activities, Alberta Parks will have to intermittently close access to some areas of the park to reduce danger to visitors as contractors work in the area with heavy equipment, and to improve efficiency of the contractor to complete the works without having to keep track of the public in the area. Conservation Officers have the ability to enforce area closures under the Provincial Parks Act. Please do not cross construction barriers and follow all signage.

Updates to this construction advisory will be posted thru the duration of the project between October 2024 - May 2026 as construction progresses and project schedule details are finalized.

Visitors looking for camping alternatives can call the Alberta Parks Information Line at 1-877-537-2757. For further information about the closures, please see the attached Area Closure Map and Frequently Asked Questions.
