Guiding and Instructing Permit Application

Thank you for your interest in guiding or instructing an outdoor activity in provincial parks or protected areas! Please allow a minimum of 30 days for application processing before the preferred start date of your activities. Note that larger, more complex permit applications may require up to 90 days for processing.

Alberta Parks receives many applications for Guiding and Instructing Permits each year, and processes them in the order in which they are received. Applying for a permit does not guarantee that a permit will be issued, and late applications may require later start dates of anticipated activities.

Guiding and Instruction Permits within Alberta Parks require the appropriate minimum levels of certification. The attached chart outlines pertinent information associated with the activity, including the recognized provincial certifying body (or bodies). Note that the Government of Alberta does not provide accreditation or indemnity to these organizations, and it is up to individual organizations to ensure adequacy of training, course materials, and insurance requirements for their respective scope of practice.

Group and other select commercial and recreational activities on Protected Areas may require an access permit or provincial authorization. Please visit Group activities on public land for more information.
