Information & Facilities

Information: 403-742-4338

Rochon Sands Provincial Park is located on the south shore of Buffalo Lake, one of the largest and most popular lakes in central Alberta. Visitors can enjoy a large sandy beach or get into the water to swim, boat, canoe, or fish.

The park is very close to the village of Rochan where visitors can find services, including a small concession stand with ice cream and a playground.

Rochan Sands is a bird lovers paradise. With its many shallow bays, it provides nesting sites for great blue herons, black-crowned night-herons, Canada geese, ducks, common terns, American avocets and ring-billed gulls. Ross's geese, American white pelicans and piping plovers may also be seen. Other species include northern orioles, western wood-pewee, great horned and short-eared owls, and golden and bald eagles.

Rochon Sands Provincial Park is operated by the Summer Village of Rochon Sands under a lease agreement with the Province of Alberta. This long-term lease provides some flexibility in how the campground is operated. Check with the Summer Village of Rochon Sands for more information on services offered. Access to the park is closed from Mid-October to early-May.

12 km west of Stettler on Hwy. 12 & 16 km north on Hwy. 835
