Advisories

A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • Bear Closure - Rawson Lake, Sarrail Ridge & Surrounding Area

    Effective:  December 8, 2023

      • Effective Date: December 8, 2023, until further notice
      • Where: Rawson Lake, Sarrail Ridge, and surrounding area
      • Why: Grizzly bear denning in the area.

      Note: Rawson Lake trail and Upper Kananaskis Lake trail remain open. Public must stay on designated trail.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

  • Construction Advisory - Hwy 40 from Elpoca Day Use to Cat Creek PRA

    Effective:  September 10, 2023   Updated:  October 31, 2023

      • Effective Date: September 10, 2023 until further notice.
      • Where: The project will include sections of Highway 40 from Elpoca Day Use to Cat Creek PRA.
      • Why: Highway paving will be taking place, the Highway will be down to one lane in places.

  • Closure - Elpoca Day Use Area and Valleyview Road

    Effective:  May 31, 2020   Updated:  October 31, 2023

      • Effective Date: Seasonal closure until further notice
      • Where: Valleyview Road from Elpoca Day Use Area to HWY 40 (South) near Little Highwood Day Use Area, including Valleyview Day Use Areas.
      • Why: Frequent bear activity in this area
