Natural Region Description

This is a Jack pine-dominated sand dune landscape with several major ravines, numerous ponds, tamarack/dwarf birch wetlands, black spruce wetlands, willow shrublands, and patterned fen. It has high erosion potential due to sandy soil and severe topography. The area is excellent wildlife habitat. The forest fire that through Bellis North Natural Area in spring 2002 left approximately 40% of the site untouched by the fire.
