Details: Please be aware that pathway refurbishment is scheduled to occur at two locations at Fish Creek
Provincial Park. The pathways listed below will be affected, with an overall construction duration
anticipated from mid September to late October 2026, or until further notice:
  • Bow River Pathway
  • Acadia Pathway
Fish Creek Provincial Park will remain open during construction. While work is being completed,
temporary closures can be expected along these segments. We recognize this may be inconvenient for visitors; however, it is necessary to ensure public safety.
Refer to the Advisory Maps enclosed for construction limits. To facilitate construction activities,
heavy equipment will be working on site.

Follow the direction of all signage and personnel in the area and stay out of active construction zones.

Effective Date: September 28, 2026 - Until Further Notice

Where: Fish Creek Provincial Park

Details: The City of Calgary will be upgrading their Sanitary Siphon line from the Burnsmead Birth Place Forest to the McKenzie switchbacks within Fish Creek Provincial Park. Construction activity including open cut trenching through the Park and micro tunnelling under the Bow River will occur from September 2026 to November 2027. Restoration work will occur in the summer and fall of 2027.   More information can be found here. Contact the City of Calgary through 311 for any further concerns.

Effective Date: September 18, 2026 - Until Further Notice

Where: Bebo Grove Day Use , Fish Creek Provincial Park , Shannon Terrace Day Use , Votier's Flats Day Use

Details: Several reports and sightings of a black bear during daylight/peak hours within the park.

Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

  • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
  • Keep your pet on a leash.
  • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible and know how to use it.
  • Secure attractants like food, garbage, pet food and any scented items in hard sided vehicles or bear proof lockers.
  • Learn more about bear safety.

Effective Date: August 13, 2026 - Until Further Notice

Where: Bebo Grove Day Use , Bow Valley Ranch Day Use , Fish Creek Provincial Park , Shannon Terrace Day Use , Sikome Aquatic Facility Day Use

Details: The Central Corridor Pathway in Fish Creek Provincial Park is the approximately 19 km primary artery of the trail system, running through the heart of the park and connecting day use areas to key points of interest. Refurbishment of this pathway is currently underway and is being delivered under three project phases. Phase 1 of the project (the eastern segment of the pathway) was completed in 2025 and is open to the public. The Government of Alberta is now proceeding with Phases 2 and 3, which will occur concurrently. Although subject to change, the following schedule is anticipated: August 2026 – December 2026:
  • Bebo Grove Day Use Area to Bow Valley Ranch Day Use Area (excluding Glennfield Day Use Area and a segment directly west of Votier’s Flats Day Use Area)
  • Bow Bottom Trail SE pedestrian crossing to Sikome Aquatic Facility
2027:
  • Bebo Grove Day Use Area to Shannon Terrace Day Use Area
  • A segment directly west of Votier’s Flats Day Use Area
Fish Creek Provincial Park will remain open during construction. While work is being completed, short-term delays can be expected along these segments of the Central Corridor Pathway. Effective Date: August 10, 2026 - Until Further Notice

Where: Fish Creek Provincial Park , Votier's Flats Day Use

Details:

Please be advised the construction activities related to the City of Calgary storm water retention pond west of the Votier's Flats Day Use Area will be taking place from now until late fall or until further notice. This includes work on repairing and reinforcing the pond embankment next to the main paved pathway.

For public safety, the work area and access to affected pathways will be restricted while work is underway.

If further information is required please reach out to the City of Calgary via 311.

Details:

The area adjacent to the Bow Valley Ranch parking lot will be undergoing soil enhancements and reclamation with native plantings. Work on nearby utilities may also be required during this time.

Visitors can expect:

  • Trucks delivering sand and equipment distributing materials on site.
  • Increased presence of heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers.
  • Crews working on nearby utility lines.

  • Admissions are processed on a first come, first served basis.
  • Group rates, reservations and pay in advance admissions are not available.
  • Sikome accepts cash, debit or credit card for payment.
  • Day passes are available for purchase at all gates (gate hours vary day to day).
  • Sikome accepts the CANOO app for new Canadian citizens.
  • As a City of Calgary Fair Entry partner facility, fee assistance visitors are welcome. A Calgary Recreation Pass card with a current fee assistance sticker on the card, or a City of Calgary Fair Entry client letter that specifies Recreation Fee Assistance approval, must be presented in order to qualify for entry. The card admits the individual named on the pass card. Calgary Recreation passes without a valid fee assistance sticker, or Fair Entry letters that do not include Fee Assistance approval, will not be accepted. Applicable day pass rates will apply.
  • With the exception of family passes, all rates are per person. Prices include GST.
  • All members of the family must be present when paying family admission fees. Late arrivals will be charged the applicable day pass rate.
  • Voluntary bag checks are conducted prior to entry. Unchecked bags are not permitted in the facility. You are welcome to leave any items you do not wish to have checked in your vehicle.
  • Alberta Parks is not responsible for items left unattended.
  • Admission fees are not refunded for any reason.

 

Regulations

Conservation Officers are Provincial Peace Officers with authority to enforce the Provincial Parks Act and various other provincial and federal statutes.

The following additional regulations are specific to the Sikome Aquatic Facility.

  • Parents must be within arm’s reach of children aged 7 and under at all times.
  • It is recommended that all children and individuals unable to swim utilize an approved FDA personal flotation device. A limited number of life jackets are available on site for free use through the Lifejacket Loaner Station program. 
  • Unsupervised children are not permitted.  Children 12 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult (18 +) to enter the facility.  Adults must remain with the children for the duration of the visit. 
  • To meet supervision requirements, a minimum of 1 adult for every 5 children under the age of 12 is required.  Families or groups not meeting this requirement will be refused entrance to the facility.
  • All children under three years of age must wear an appropriate swim diaper and plastic pants while in the water.
  • Alcohol and cannabis are prohibited.
  • Sikome is a smoke/vape free facility.  There are designated smoking areas outside the entry gates. 
  • Breakable containers (glass, ceramic, etc) are not permitted.
  • Pets are not permitted.
  • Guide and assisted living dogs are permitted.  Assistance dogs must be on a leash at all times and are not permitted in the water.
  • Propane gas barbeques are permitted on grassed areas only. Set up is not permitted on paved walkways or Gate A (Main) seating area.  Wood or charcoal/briquette barbeques are not permitted.
  • Fully enclosed tents are not permitted.  Large stand up style canopies are permitted on the south ½ of the facility.  These units must be set up on grassed areas and properly secured. Set up is not permitted on the sand.
  • The use of PA systems, large music speakers or amplifiers is not permitted. Loud music that disturbs the enjoyment of others is prohibited.
  • Only small inflatables and plastic beach toys are allowed. 
  • The following items are prohibited for use in the facility:
    • scuba gear (tanks, fins, full face masks, snorkels)
    • large rafts, paddles, skim boards, paddle boards and hard bottomed boats (kayaks, canoes, etc.)
    • mermaid style swim fins that bind feet together
    • large party floats
    • metal shovels or gardening tools
    • bikes, rollerblades skateboards or scooters
    • drones, kites, remote controlled airplanes and toys
    • sports equipment (baseball bats, golf clubs, croquette mallets, lacrosse sticks, bow and arrows, ax throwing kits, etc)
  • Occasionally, some sporting equipment (eg footballs, badminton equipment) may be permitted at the discretion of the supervisor on duty.  Permission will vary day to day and is based on weather and facility attendance. Use will be limited to specific locations around the facility as identified by staff.
  • Amplifiers and large speaker use is prohibited.
  • Metal detecting and metal detecting equipment are not permitted.

Alberta Parks is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for staff and visitors.  Physical or verbal abuse and inappropriate behavior or comments may result in refusal of service or removal from the facility. In addition, Conservation Officers have the authority to immediately suspend any activity deemed to be detrimental to someone else’s enjoyment of the facility

Accessibility

  • Sikome has a beach wheelchair for loan on a first come, first served basis. This enables people with reduced mobility to access the beach and water.
  • The beach wheelchair is available at the Water Safety Centre, located beside the north change room (north east corner of the facility).
  • Contact information/ID must be provided to borrow the chair. Sikome staff will give users a brief overview on safe use of the chair.
  • Children under 18 years of age must have parental consent to borrow the chair.

Safety & First Aid

Safety Ambassadors

  • monitor facility activity
  • patrol the beach and provide water safety education when required
  • provide basic first aid
  • provide assistance to visitors as required/requested

Safety Ambassadors are NOT lifeguards.  You are responsible for your personal safety and the safety and supervision of children.

Emergencies

Water closures may be implemented in the event of an emergency.  During an emergency event, follow direction given, stay clear of the accident or emergency area and cooperate by following staff and emergency personnel instructions.

Weather Hazards

Occasionally, unforeseen weather hazards occur.  For the safety of visitors and staff, when threatening weather hazards such as thunder, lightning, hail, strong winds etc. is in the area, access to the beach and water may be suspended.

Visitors are requested to find shelter until the storm passes. An announcement will be made to advise when it is safe to resume beach and water activity.

 Admission refunds are not given for emergencies, water closures or weather events that occur at any point during your visit.

On-Site Available Services

  • Change rooms and showers
  • Three playgrounds are located within the fence lines
  • Limited picnic tables
  • Bike racks (located in the parking lots outside the fence)
  • Concession: Hot dogs, sandwiches, snacks, frozen treats and soft drinks are available for purchase.
  • Beach Shop: A limited selection of beach supplies are available for purchase.

Road Access and Parking

Parking is permitted in designated parking spots only. Parking is prohibited along or adjacent to roadways and in all areas designated as “no parking”.  Parking regulations are strictly enforced. Vehicles in violation may be ticketed or towed.

There are 3 parking lots available:

  • NW parking and entry is accessible from Sun Valley Blvd SE. – open daily
  • NE parking and entry is accessible from Bow Bottom Tr. SE – open daily
  • South parking and entry is accessible from both Sun Valley Blvd and Bow Bottom Tr. SE - open Saturdays, Sundays and holidays to mid August (weather permitting).
  • Overflow parking is available at the South entrance lot. Visitors parking in the south/overflow lot on weekdays, are required to park, then walk to the north entrances to pay admissions and enter/exit the facility.

Water Quality

Three fresh water wells supply the water for Sikome; no water is taken from the Bow River. A water treatment plant on site ensures water quality.

Water quality in the lake is actively monitored: Every week, water samples are taken from different areas of the lake. Samples are analyzed at the Foothills Hospital and results are forwarded to Alberta Health Services and Fish Creek Provincial Park maintenance.

Active management efforts are undertaken to reduce the risks to water quality, however it is important to remember that swimmer's itch can be contracted at any time in lakes.

The best way to reduce your risk of developing swimmer's itch is to:

  • Towel dry thoroughly immediately after swimming, paying particular attention to exposed skin.
  • Use the on-site showers as soon as possible after leaving the water.
