Landforms and Landscapes: Stories from the Past

Look around. Alberta’s land is full of surprises! From towering mountains and deep valleys to wide lakes and ancient badlands, every landform has a story to tell. But how did these incredible landscapes come to be?

In this dynamic program, students will travel back in time to uncover the forces that shaped Alberta’s land. Through storytelling, hands-on activities, and outdoor exploration, they’ll learn how rock layers and fossils reveal the past, and how water, from glaciers to rivers, continues to sculpt the land today.

      Students will:

      • Time-travel through Alberta’s geological history to build the landscape we see today
      • Create and shape Alberta’s landforms through hands-on activities
      • Act out the process of fossilization in a race against time
      • Explore how water transforms the land, from ancient glaciers to modern wetlands

This program is perfect for inspiring wonder, sparking scientific thinking, and helping students see the land around them in a whole new way.
