A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • Construction Closure - Reclaimer Trail

    Effective:  July 23, 2024

      • Effective Date: July 23 until August 15, 2024, or until further notice.
      • Where: Reclaimer Trail.
      • Why: The Reclaimer trail will be undergoing construction for trail drainage work to mitigate erosion problems. Work includes re-establishing a drainage ditch, up-sizing of the culvert and repair work to the trail surface. We recognize the construction and associated closure is inconvenient; however, it is necessary. Please obey all signs and closures.

  • Closure - North Ridge climbing route

    Effective:  July 18, 2024

      • Effective date: July 18, 2024 until further notice.
      • Where: The North Ridge climbing route on the East End of Rundle (EEOR). All other climbing routes (and the EEOR scrambling route) remain open at this time.
      • Why: To minimize disturbances to a peregrine falcon nesting site.

  • Bear Warning - Canmore Nordic Centre

    Effective:  June 13, 2024   Updated:  July 10, 2024

      • Effective Date: June 13, 2024, until further notice
      • Where: Canmore Nordic Centre.
      • Why: Numerous black bears have been observed in the area.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

    Please report all bear sightings immediately to 403-591-7755.

  • Construction Closure - Grassi Lakes Climbing Area Parking Lot

    Effective:  June 6, 2024   Updated:  July 10, 2024

      • Effective Date: June 6, 2024 until further notice 
      • Where: Grassi Lake’s climbers parking lot along Highway 742 
      • Why: Construction and road work in the area.

    Effective:  May 21, 2024   Updated:  June 18, 2024

      • Effective Date: VARIOUS - May 21 to August 30, or until further notice.
      • Where: Grassi Lakes Trails & Day Use Area.
      • Why: The Grassi Lakes trails will be undergoing construction for trail drainage work to mitigate erosion problems. Work includes re-establishing drainage ditches, up-sizing of culverts and repair work to the trail surface. 

        We recognize the construction and associated closures are inconvenient; however, they are necessary.

        Visitors looking for alternatives can call the Kananaskis Information Line at (403) 678-0760, or stop by a Kananaskis Information Centre.

        Temporary Intermittent Trail Closures to Accommodate Construction

        • June 18 – August 30, 2024.
        • Detours and closures will be ongoing during this project. Access to the lakes will still be available via one of the two trails.
        • Note that during construction, the Grassi Lakes Interpretive Trail is open for use. The Grassi Lakes Interpretive Trail contains steep sections and stairs. Users will be required to navigate these steep stairs and sections both up and down the trail.
        • Please obey all signs, closures and detours.
