A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park your vehicle in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley.
  • Construction Closure - Cross Country Stadium, Canmore Nordic Centre

    Effective:  July 4, 2023   Updated:  September 21, 2023

      • Effective Date: July 4, 2023 until further notice
      • Where: Cross Country Stadium, Canmore Nordic Centre
      • Why: Contractors will be working on the Stadium directly to the west of the Day Lodge. Please watch for men and equipment working and follow all signage and fencing.

  • Bear Warning - Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park

    Effective:  June 29, 2023   Updated:  September 21, 2023

      • Effective Date: June 29, 2022, until further notice
      • Where: Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park surrounding area, including the George Town Trail, Canmore Trail, Legacy Trail and Narnia. 
      • Why: Numerous black bears have been observed in the area.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.

  • Bear Warning - Grassi Lakes Day Use, Trails, & Surrounding Area

    Effective:  June 16, 2023   Updated:  August 1, 2023

      • Effective Date: June 16, 2023 until further notice
      • Where: Grassi Lakes Day Use Area, trails and surrounding area
      • Why: A black bear sow and cubs have been sighted in the area frequently. Bears can become defensive of their young if they feel threatened, so be sure to give plenty of distance if a bear is encountered.

    Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis Region at any time. To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear:

    • Make plenty of noise and travel in groups.
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears and their signs.
    • Keep your pet on a leash.
    • Carry bear spray. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and know how to use bear spray.
