Aster Lake Backcountry Campground is in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, 50 km south of Hwy. 1 on Hwy. 40 and south on Kananaskis Lakes Trail. The closest access is at the Upper Lake Day Use Area. It is 10.8 km from the trailhead via Upper Kananaskis Lake Circuit/Aster Lake Route Trail. This idyllic spot is accessed via an unmaintained trail so is only suitable for experienced hikers, prepared to route find and fend for themselves. It has space for about 5 tents in an open meadow with beautiful mountain views. No fires are permitted. There are pit/vault toilets and secure food storage lockers.
