Early Season
Early season 2024 starts on October 19 and runs until November 14, 2024.
Early season pass or day trail pass are needed to access trails in the early season. Please refer below for more information on Frozen Thunder.
Frozen Thunder
Frozen Thunder is an early season ski trail made of stored machine-made snow, to allow biathlon and cross-country skiers to start training in October. Snow made the previous winter is stored for the summer in a protected location covered in sawdust. In the fall the snow is spread onto the trail to create Frozen Thunder.
The track length is generally 2 km with additional snow lanes available for biathlon shooting range users.
A trail pass is needed to access Frozen Thunder, or any other winter trails prior to the start of the regular season.
An early season pass can be purchased online or at the Day Lodge to access Frozen Thunder. Canmore Nordic Centre regular season passes are not valid for access to Frozen Thunder at the start of the season. This is due to the cost to create and maintain Frozen Thunder.
The general public is welcome to access Frozen Thunder when the trail is not being used for training of high performance athletes. Public skiing on Frozen Thunder is permitted after 12:00 p.m. everyday, with a valid trail pass.
Access to Frozen Thunder is limited to national and provincial level athletes everyday until 12:00 p.m. This dedicated time enables athletes to maximize their training efforts and reduces the potential for high speed collisions. For your safety and the safety of our athletes, do not attempt to access Frozen Thunder during this time.
Regular Season
Regular season 2024-2025 starts on November 15, 2024 and runs until April 30, 2025, conditions permitting.
Regular season pass or day trail pass are needed to access trails.
Day passes can be purchased at the Day Lodge between the hours 9 am to 5 pm.
More than 65 kilometres of groomed, machine-made and natural trails.
6.5 kilometres of illuminated trail for night skiing.
All trails are suitable for both classic and skate techniques.
A beautiful meadow, located in the middle of the trail system, is easily accessible for skiers of all levels. The meadow offers spectacular views of Canmore, the Bow Valley and surrounding Rocky Mountains.
The Warming Hut in the meadow is open from 9am – 9pm during ski season. The hut is located just off Banff Trail, approximately 3 km from the Daylodge.
Skiing at Canmore Nordic Centre occurs on a mixture of natural and machine-made snow.
Machine-made snow capabilities support more than 20 kilometres of trails, including 2 large stadium areas.
Machine-made snow allows an earlier start and more consistent conditions throughout the season. Canmore Nordic Centre offers skiing as early as mid-October! The centre's unique snow farming initiative utilizes snow stored on-site from the previous season.
